Evaluation question 2

This is my prezzie on Question 2 of the evaluation questions.

Evaluation Question 1

Effect	Scene	Evidence
Use of narrative		In our film the establishing shot connotes with a typical thriller film as it shows he is alone in an isolated room which shows he is alone. This is to show to the audience he is a very vulnerable character throughout the film.
Mise-en-scene		In our film we decided to use a forest as forests are seen as dark and lonely so the character will be seen as more vulnerable. We didn’t have many props used in the film as not many were needed to set the atmosphere. We used an iPad and a  bottle of milk and these were only used to fit the storyline of the film.
Editing techniques		In our opening establishing shot we used a slow pan down on to the character, this made i t clear that he was a key part to the film and that he was very vulnerable.  In our film we uses a three piece montage with quick cuts between them to build tension and get the urge of a rush and a panic. The music we used was a stringed piece which adds a lot of tension to the film.
Use of camera		We used a lot of close-ups, long shots and pans in our film to cause a lot of tension. This is typical of a conventionsl teen thriller film. We used some over the shoulder shots and point of view shots in our film to show that slender is always watching. Also the long shots used were so we were able to show the teenage boy as a small weak character compared to slender.
Characters		In our film we only have 2 characters. One teenage boy named William and the mysterious character that is slender. We usesd a teenage boy as we were targeting a teen audience so they can relate to most of the things the character is doing, also we chose to use a teen boy rather than a girl this is because we wanted to put our on spin on a traditional teen thriller film. The teenage boy is followed through slender throughout the film and something tragic happens at the end which is not shows so is left on a cliff hanger.
Special effects		In our film we only used a couple of special effects, these were the static when William walks past slender and the title which has cracks coming off it which connotes the trees of the forest in the film.

Story Board

This is our storyboard which helped us during the filming of The following by knowing the order of the scenes we had to film and how they had to be filmed. It also showed us what type of shot we needed to use for example over the shoulder. I was in charge of drawing the story board for the group and so we can put it on our blogs.

Good Points of film

In the final edit of the film there were many good points to the film for example:

• The Way the Text was placed in the film.

•  The Fuzz when William walks past slender.

• The ripple of the puddle and Slender appearing in it. 

• The point of view shot from Slender.

First Edit

This is our first proper edit of The Following.

Even though this was our first edit we decided we could do a lot better so when we went and filmed again we tried to get more forest scenes rather than inside the house. Also we thought we could do more in the next filming to target our audience and make it more of a horror for teenagers.

Development of title

Over time our Title of The Following has changed dramatically and with great detail.

This is the first Ever Following logo made. We tried to base this around the original slender 8 pages game title.

This was the Second Developed logo for our film. The man as the L in Following was inspired from a lot of Saul Basses work.

This is our final Title which is used in our final edit of the film and as you can see has come a long way from the first edit.

Young Film Makers Award

We got the opportunity to send our opening sequence to the Zoom young film makers awards. We were very pleased to find our film was of a good standard to enter into the competition. Unfortunately we were not able to send the final edit of the film as we were still in the process of improving The following.
